Update your browser

Updated on

You can access Brightspace with older versions of our supported browsers. However, for an optimal experience that offers better performance, accessibility, and security, we strongly recommend that all users access Brightspace with the latest version of the supported browser.

Supported browsers

Windows 10/11: Google Chromer, Microsoft Edge and Mozilla Firefox

macOS: Google Chrome, Safari, Mozilla Firefox.

You can access Brightspace with older versions of the supported browsers; however, you may encounter unexpected user interface behaviour and appearance or broken and unsupported functionality.

On THUAS (computer) devices, chances are you will receive a notification saying that the Firefox ESR browser is "retro". When you click this notification away, you can use Brightspace as normal.

Update Chrome

Regarding Chrome, you have two options:

  1. Keep Chrome automatically up to date.
    • See here for extensive instructions.
  2. Download the latest version of Chrome via https://www.google.com/chrome/

Update Edge

Regarding Edge, you have two options:

  1. Upgrade to the New Edge Browser
    • See here for extensive instructions.
  2. Download the latest version of Edge via https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/edge

Edge is usually kept up to date automatically, as it comes with windows.

Update Firefox

By default, Firefox updates automatically. You can always update manually, in which case an update is downloaded but not installed until you restart Firefox.

Please see this website on how to update Firefox manually.

Update Safari

To keep Safari up to date on your macOS, always install the latest macOS updates via the App Store.

The most recent version of macOS includes the most recent version of Safari. For some earlier versions of macOS, Safari might also be available separately from the Updates tab of the App Store.

1. Download the latest version of macOS via: https://support.apple.com/kb/HT201475

If you are working on a computer/laptop from THUAS and you are not able to update your browser, please contact IT-Helpdesk via the IT Self-Service Portal or +31 (0)70 - 445 77 77.
