What can I use Brightspace for and when should I use Remindo?

Updated on

Brightspace offers many options for tests and assignments, however, it is not our main application for taking digital tests. THUAS primarily uses Remindo (and in some cases Möbius) as a digital testing tool, so what needs to go in Remindo and what can you do in Brightspace?

Multiple-Choice Tests

For summative multiple-choice tests or other summative tests that are created with an item bank, Remindo is the designated tool.

Remindo has been designed to make sure that questions in the databank are safely stored and can be properly managed to keep a grip on the quality of the test questions.

Brightspace also offers tools to perform Multiple-Choice tests. You can use this for formative purposes.

Note: It is not allowed to use the Multiple-Choice options in Brightspace for summative tests, as it does not ensure the quality and safety of the test questions.

Assignments

Remindo is not optimized for hand-in assignments, such as projects or written papers. Brightspace provides more possibilities for rubrics and grading forms and has good options for inline grading and providing feedback to the student. Therefore Brightspace is the designated tool for this kind of assignment.

Brightspace has a comprehensive Assignment tool that allows you to create an assignment for file submission. This can be any kind of file. You can use the Rubrics tool to create a rubric or a grading form. It is possible to show the rubric or grading form to the students before they hand in an assignment, so they have a clear view of how they will be graded.

It is also possible to set up the Assignment tool to provide feedback and not require submission from the student. This is useful for assessments like presentations and oral assignments.

It is possible to use this tool for both formative and summative purposes.

It is strongly recommended to design a rubric or grading form for this kind of assignment. This is easily created in Brightspace.

Grades

You can use the Assignment tool to provide feedback and grades to students. You should be aware that students cannot take any rights from grades in Brightspace. Final grades should always be stored in Osiris.
