How do I adjust my account?

In account settings, you can customize many of the Brightspace display options. These settings are personal and do not influence the appearance of your course for students.

  • General account settings like the font size, time zone and settings of other applications can be altered in the Account Settings tab.
  • The Discussions tab allows you to alter the display and response settings for the discussion forums.
  • The Email tab allows you to copy each outgoing message going to your email. And an Email signature can be added.

Account settings

  1. Click on your name in the minibar. Select Account Settings to open the tab Account Settings.
  2. Font sizes in Brightspace can be altered below Font Settings. However, the font size in images, documents and objects remains unchanged.
  3. Reading Content allows you to choose whether you want to mark content as 'read' as the page scrolls, or want to turn this off.
  4. Video Settings allows you to ensure that assistive technologies can detect videos.

 

  1. Below Locale & Language you can change the calendar date, the time, the format numbers and the percentage format.
  2. The time zone can be changed beneath Time Zone.

 

  1. Below Signing In you can change your online status. You have to option to appear online when you are logged in or you can choose to always appear offline. Click below, on 'Which option should I choose?' for more explanation.  
  2. Below Application Settings you can see which applications are registered to your account.
  3. Click Save and Close at the bottom of the page in order to save your changes and to return to the page you were on before adjusting your account settings.

Discussions

Please note: More options will be available beneath the discussion tab when navigating from a course to Account Settings, than from navigating from your personal homepage to Account Settings. It is also possible to change the discussion settings via the Discussions menu found in courses via the Course Tools tab.

  1. Navigate to the Discussion tab to alter discussion settings.
  2. Beneath Personal Settings you are able to adjust personal settings concerning the discussions:
    • Selecting Always show the discussion list pane allows you to always see an overview of the discussion on the left side of your screen.
    • Selecting Include original post in reply beneath Reply Settings causes the original post to be included in your reply by default.
  3. Click Save and Close at the bottom of the page in order to save your changes and to return to the page you were before adjusting your account settings.

Email

  1. Navigate to the Email tab to alter Email settings.
  2. Beneath Email Options you can select if you want to copy each outgoing message going to your email. You can also add Email signature.
