Before and during the Pilot of Brightspace, research has been done on the structure of a course. After the evaluation, findings indicated that students have a strong preference for a consistent lay-out across all courses. In this way, students will know where to find the right information.

The structure of the content

The information below covers the default content structure of a course. Depending on the faculty you are bound to, you may see more or less content units, as they are not always relevant for your course.

Moreover, you are always able to hide or remove content units that are not relevant to your course, e.g. if your course does not contain a Study guide, you may want to remove it from your course.

Under General Information you can add:

  1. A link to your Study guide
  2. Information on the Grading Method
  3. Contact Information

Course outline:

  1. Under the unit Course outline, you can structure your course and explain the way its taught to the students. This makes it possible for students to prepare for their classes.
  2. Brightspace provides a default content structure. This can be adjusted to fit a week or theme structure. In this example, Week 1 will then be displayed as Theme 1.

Under Submission point you can add:

  1. An assignment, you can place a link to the assignments and/or information about the assignment(s).

Under Q&A you can add:

  1. A discussion, here you can answer questions about course content. This way, students can ask their teacher(s) or fellow students for advice.

Under Online class you can add:

  1. A link to Microsoft Teams
  2. Set up Collaborate Ultra for an online class.
