What is the Visual Table of Contents?
The Visual Table of Contents is a widget on the homepage of all the Courses in Brightspace. It makes the Course Content accessible in multiple ways.
Description of the unit
The Description of a unit mainly determines what you see in the widget:
- If you click the 'i' then the tile turns over and you see (the first part of) the unit's description.
- Clicking on title or the image takes you to the top level of the unit.
- Click on the arrows to go to the part of the unit where you left off. If there is a check mark, you have visited all units.
Removing the logo
At the moment there is still a logo of The Hague University of Applied Sciences in various places in a course, which is also shown in the widget on the Course Homepage. To get this neat, you need to remove this logo from the description of the units.
- Go to the unit and select Edit under the three dots
- In the Description field, delete the logo at the bottom
Once you have removed it, you can then choose to change the default image to your own or a house style image. How? Read on below:
Changing the image
Unit images can be customized to your liking. If you do not, a standard THUAS-image will be displayed.
You can set a different image for each Unit. To do so, insert the desired image in the 'description' of the Unit with Insert Image. The first image Brightspace sees within the description will be visible on the homepage.
- You can use your own images. Make sure you use the correct ratio with a minimum of 768 x 200.
- You can also choose from a set of images designed in THUAS-style for this purpose. Read how to do this below.
Images in THUAS-style
The designed images can be used interchangeably and also match the THUAS default image (which is visible when you do not change anything). You can also choose to change specific Units.
Using your right mouse button below, copy the link of the image of your choice and use it in the 'description' of your Unit via Insert Image: URL.

There are several images available to choose from. The top four are meant for the standard Units, you can complement and mix these with the images further below. Use your right mouse button and choose 'copy hyperlink'.

Possible problems and solutions
It may happen that you do not see the desired image on the course home page. This is probably because something is wrong within the Unit description. For example:

You see a part of the THUAS logo This logo was in an earlier version of the Basic Course Template at the bottom of the Units' description. If this is the only image within the description, the system sees that logo first and it will be shown on the course homepage. |
Remove the logo at the bottom of the description. Then, you will see the default image within the widget on the course homepage. |

You see a small version of the course homepage banner. There is an image in the description that no longer exists. You can see this by the following icon in the text: |
Remove the icon.
If these steps do not solve the problem, contact the support desk. The source code of the description may still contain code from previously used images. |
