In Brightspace, your role determines which actions you can perform in relation to Content, Assignments, Grades and User Management within a course environment. The following overview sets out the rights and specific permissions for each role in Brightspace.
As an instructor, you can add other users to the course (class list) with the following roles: Instructor, Student, Student Assistant and The Hague Test Student. That final role does not represent an actual person, but allows you to experience the course in Brightspace as a student. Read more about Test Student here.
Restoring content (conditional)
As a lecturer, you have the option to restore deleted content. This is conditional. Not all data can be recovered in every situation. Would you like to know exactly what the possibilities and limitations are? Please refer to the article ‘What data can be restored after deletion?’.
To actually manage and restore specific files within your course environment, you can use the “Manage Files” function. Instructions for this can be found in the guide “How do I use Manage Files?”.
How do I check my own role or that of a colleague?
- Open the Class List
Click on Course Admin in the navigation bar, then click on Class List.
You will now see a list of all users enrolled in the current course environment. You can now use the 'Search for' field to find the name of the user whose role you wish to check.
